Sunday Wyndham notebook: Brazil’s recruits lead as final round begins
Playing by himself in a field of 75 at the final round of the Wyndham Championship, Casey teed off on schedule at 8:30 a.m. and finished 18 holes at Sedgefield Country Club in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Casey shot 75 and finished four holes ahead of the twosome of Jeff Maggert and Billy Mayfair, who had the second tee time of the day. Casey had an offbeat weekend at the Wyndham. In his final two rounds, the Englishman had 10 birdies, six bogeys, three double-bogeys, two triple-bogeys and a quadruple-bogey. He shot 77 and 75 after making the cut. DALY CHANGES CADDIES: Fan favorite John Daly has apparently parted company with his longtime caddie Peter Van Der Riet. Daly, who has played well in limited starts this year, missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship by one stroke. Daly made the announcement on the social media website Twitter just after 4 p.m. Sunday — “tough not makin the cut by 1 but gave myself a chance–changed out my caddie midway–positive new start! On to Knoxville Pilot Sentinel Open” Daly followed up with a tweet saying the caddie relationship “just ran its course for 20-plus years.” Daly wrote that Lance Awe, a former assistant pro at Colonial in Texas, will be his new caddie. “Good Stuff ahead! I’m pumped ready to go,” Daly tweeted.
SOLITARY MAN: Paul Casey started early, and he finished early.
